Elder Law

“Elder Law” refers to the exercise of rights of people for whom experience, and years of life have made their mark. It suggests a multidisciplinary approach. Social, legal and medical needs vary significantly from one elder to another.

The rights of elders deserve special attention given the vulnerability of some elders, to name just one of the areas of concern.

Our practice favors an approach whereby seniors deserve first respect and listening to expression of their wishes, and that the search for their best interests requires the identification of their abilities as well as their needs. We must avoid seeing them first as vulnerable or incapable persons because of their age or state of health.

Issues related to elders’ rights involve knowledge in various fields:

  • Wealth management
  • Preparation of wills, trusts, donations
  • Power of attorney, protection mandates or mandate in case of incapacity
  • Access to government programs
  • Access to grandchildren
  • Safeguarding autonomy and lifestyle choices
  • Protection against maltreatment, exploitation, retaliation
  • Home support for elders
  • Support, assistance and services for elders
  • Access to appropriate health care and services
  • Palliative care, end of life care
  • End of housing lease
  • Shelter

We have the expertise and experience to advise you on the avenues to follow and to appear before the courts to enforce elders’ rights.
